Gelcoat has no clear coat to hide behind. Left unprotected it chalks, the colour flattens, and the surface turns porous enough to hold every stain the water puts on it — which is why a coated hull stays bright far longer than a waxed one.
Lux Detailer details and coats boats across the Lowcountry, mobile to your dock, lift or driveway. The job is a wash, decontamination, oxidation removal and machine polish, then the coating itself: a two-product Gtechniq system, or a single layer of Shine Supply Bedlock, depending on the package you choose. Hulls, topsides, non-skid, vinyl and helm surfaces are all part of the work. Get a free quote today.

We come to your marina, dock, driveway or dry storage across the Lowcountry and Savannah. No travel fee. This work is priced per foot, because size and condition decide how much correction the gel coat needs.
Ceramic coating and gel coat restoration, priced per foot. How much your boat needs depends on how far the gel coat has oxidized.
A 26 ft boat is 26 × $100 = $2,600. That is a starting estimate. Ceramic and gel coat work is quoted once we have seen your boat, because how far the gel coat has gone decides how much correction it needs. We confirm the price with you before any work starts.
How to tell what you need. Run your hand along the hull. If it comes away chalky and leaves residue on your fingers, the gelcoat is oxidised and needs restoration first — wetsanding or a two-step cut and buff, priced after inspection. A coating goes on after that, never instead of it.
Our boat detailing process is specifically designed for the marine environment. We begin with a thorough hull wash using marine-safe cleaning agents that cut through salt deposits, waterline stains, and algae growth without damaging gel coat. Topside surfaces receive oxidation removal and UV-protective wax or ceramic sealant application. We detail all metal hardware, clean and condition vinyl seating, and restore non-skid surfaces. Canvas and isinglass cleaning is available for enclosures and tops. Our mobile marine unit comes directly to your dock, lift, or dry storage facility.
For vessels with heavy oxidation, we perform two-stage compounding and polishing to restore gelcoat clarity before applying your professional-grade marine ceramic coating or a premium marine wax. We also detail canvas tops, isinglass enclosures, and teak decking using specialized marine cleaners that protect without stripping natural oils. Our boat detailing packages range from basic wash-and-wax maintenance to complete restoration — and every service is performed at your location.

In the Lowcountry saltwater environment, we recommend a deep wash and spray wax every 3 months, a deep wash with a heavy coat of wax every 6 months, and a deep buff and wax of the gelcoat and painted surfaces once a year, whether the boat stays in the water or is trailered. The combination of salt water, UV exposure, and humidity in Beaufort County and the surrounding coastal areas accelerates gelcoat oxidation and promotes mildew growth. Regular detailing with oxidation removal and protective wax or ceramic coating preserves your boat appearance and resale value.
Traditional marine wax provides a temporary protective layer that lasts 1 to 3 months before breaking down from UV and salt exposure. Marine ceramic coating forms a semi-permanent bond with your boat gelcoat or paint, creating a hydrophobic barrier that lasts 2 to 5 years. Ceramic coating offers superior protection against oxidation, staining, and biological growth while making cleaning significantly easier. While ceramic coating has a higher upfront cost, it eliminates the need for frequent waxing and provides better long-term value for Lowcountry boat owners.
