PAINT CORRECTION SERVICES

PRECISION POLISHING FOR LOWCOUNTRY PAINT

If you drive in the Lowcountry, your vehicle’s paint is under constant attack. Salt air rolling in off the marshes, year-round UV, and subtropical humidity all accelerate clear coat damage — and what looks like “dirty paint” is often swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and etching embedded in the clear coat itself. No amount of washing will fix those defects. They need to be polished out.

Paint correction is the machine-polishing process that levels your clear coat to remove those defects and restore true gloss. At Lux Detailer, we use professional-grade dual-action polishers from Flex and Rupes, cutting and finishing pads from Lake Country, and pro compounds from 3D and Sonax — the same tools trusted by the top paint correction shops in the country.

Our mobile service comes to you — Bluffton, Hilton Head, Beaufort, Savannah, Pooler, Richmond Hill, and every community across the Lowcountry. No shop drop-offs, no rental cars. Get a free quote today.

PRECISION CORRECTION
FOR LOWCOUNTRY PAINT

Paint correction in process by Lux Detailer

WHY YOUR PAINT NEEDS CORRECTION

Over time, your clear coat accumulates defects: swirl marks from improper washing, light scratches from daily driving, oxidation from UV exposure, water spots and mineral etching from rain, and chemical etching from bird droppings or tree sap. These defects don’t come off with wash and wax — they live inside the clear coat, and they need to be polished out.

Our paint correction process starts with a full decontamination wash: foam cannon pre-soak, pH-neutral hand wash, iron fallout remover, and clay bar treatment to strip every bonded contaminant from the paint. We then measure clear coat thickness with a paint depth gauge before a single pad touches the car — this tells us exactly how much material we can safely remove.

Only then do we begin correction. Using dual-action polishers and the right combination of cutting and finishing pads, we level the clear coat to remove defects and restore the gloss your paint had when new. Every panel is inspected under LED swirl-finder lighting between passes. Learn more from the International Detailing Association on proper correction standards.

  • Removes swirl marks, oxidation, water spots and most light-to-moderate scratches

Large vehicle +$100

Correct the paint, then seal it under a 9H ceramic coating. 3 to 5 years of protection with proper care.

  • Machine polishing of paintwork to remove swirls and light scratches
  • Premium 9H base ceramic coating, lasts 3 to 5 years
  • Full clay bar decontamination and surface preparation

Correcting before coating is what makes the finish last. The coating locks in corrected paint rather than sealing swirls underneath it.

A large vehicle means a 3-row SUV, van, lifted or dually truck, or anything oversized. The fee is shown on each package above. Glass and wheel coating can be added as a $399 bundle. Heavy pet hair, embedded stains or sand may need Custom Work at $120 per hour, always quoted on-site before we start.

OUR PAINT CORRECTION PROCESS

Our paint correction workflow is built around three tiers so we can match the process to your paint’s actual condition.

Single-Stage Correction — For light swirls and mild oxidation. One pass with a one-step polish removes 50–60% of defects and restores significant gloss. Great for daily drivers that need a refresh. Typical time: 4–5 hours on most sedans.

Two-Stage Correction — For moderate swirls, scratches, and oxidation. Stage 1 uses a cutting compound with Lake Country Force cutting pads to level defects. Stage 2 refines with a finishing polish and soft pads for maximum gloss. Removes 85–95% of correctable defects. Typical time: 8–10 hours.

Three-Stage Correction — For heavily swirled or oxidized paint, show cars, and high-end vehicles. Adds a heavy cut stage before the two refining passes using compounds from 3D and Sonax. Removes 95–99% of correctable defects. Full-day job.

We finish every correction with an isopropyl alcohol panel wipe to strip polishing oils and reveal the true result. This is the ideal moment to add ceramic coating — options like Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light, Gyeon Mohs Evo, or NanoSkin G5 Pro Graphene — to lock in the corrected finish for 2 to 5 years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does paint correction take? A full paint correction takes 4 to 12 hours depending on correction stage and vehicle size. Single-stage on a sedan runs 4–5 hours. Two-stage on an SUV typically takes 8–10 hours. Three-stage on larger or heavily damaged vehicles can be a full-day job or more. We quote time honestly during your inspection, so you know exactly what to expect. Get a quote for your vehicle. Will paint correction damage my clear coat? Not when done correctly. We measure clear coat thickness with a paint depth gauge before and after correction to ensure we only remove the minimum material needed. Safe correction typically removes just a few microns — less than 10% of total clear coat thickness. The danger is aggressive one-pass buffing at chain detail shops where paint gets thinned irresponsibly. Our multi-stage process is designed to preserve clear coat for the life of the vehicle. How much does paint correction cost? A one-step correction is $549 and is booked as Enhancement Correction Exterior. A full two-stage paint correction is $799. Paint correction with a 9H ceramic coating is $1,099. We measure clear coat thickness and inspect paint condition before quoting — no surprise charges, and any deeper defect work is quoted on-site before we start. Request a custom quote. Should I add ceramic coating after paint correction? Yes — paint correction and ceramic coating are the perfect pairing. Correction restores your clear coat to a flawless surface. Ceramic coating then locks that surface in for 2 to 5 years, protecting against swirl marks, UV fade, bird droppings, tree sap, and water spots. Applying ceramic coating without correction first just seals in existing defects. Applying correction without ceramic means the paint is vulnerable to new defects starting day one. Done together, you get years of mirror-finish protection.
